LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - The closing of Sally's Good Food is leaving folks with bittersweet memories. For customers, it's hard to believe the restaurant's story has come to an end.

For 30 years, Sally Knight and her dedicated crew have been serving good eats with East Texas hospitality.

"We'll be missing Sally's tremendously," said Rod Bullard, a customer. "She's open her doors to us and taken us in like family and fed us good home cooking."

For Sally, closing up shop is bitter sweet.

"And, I cry and I smile and I cry and I smile you know, and then there's some people that come in and it's real hard," said Knight. "So many people have been my friend and she's been there's...and has several flower bouquets to show it."

If you haven't already guessed, the best items on Knight's menu, are her homemade pies.

"The best doggone pie and chocolate cake in the universe!" said Bullard. "Absolutely, now you talking about crying - I am crying!"

"I've been known to come and get a whole pie, and take it some place, and tell a little fib like I made it," laughed customer Mary Ann Collier.

"I've got two pecans and one egg custard and I am through with pies," said Knight.

Her husband, Jim, has been her side kick.

"I'm better known as Mr. Sally," laughed Jim Knight. "I had some kids come in and say, 'Are you Mr. Sally?' I said, 'Yes I sure am.'"

"If I don't sell the place, I'll maybe call a bunch and say let's meet at Sally's for lunch, I'll fix lunch today."

Knight says she is closing the restaurant because 30 years has taken a toll on her health. She added that none of the recipes for her menu items or famous pies are written down. They are all in her head.
