Texas vs. Alabama Matchup - Best Traditions

KLTV is teaming with Raycom sister station WSFA in Montgomery, Alabama, and debating the biggest 11 points entering the BCS Championship game on January 7th...and each day, we will present a new debate point.

KLTV/Texas is represented by Sports Director Ryan Peterson, and Jeff Shearer, Sports Director at WSFA will represent the Crimson Tide...

Topic #4: Who has the best tradition?

Ryan says... Hook 'em Horns.  When you hear that, you know you're in Texas.  It's one of the most well known sayings in all of sports.  When you sit in Royal Memorial Stadium, you see a sea of burnt orange.  "The Eyes of Texas are Upon You," rings through the crowd.  Bevo is chilling on the field, and the Texas cannon goes off after every touchdown.  After every win (which is most of the time) the Texas Tower lights up in orange on the UT campus.

Jeff says... Stroll across the street from Bryant-Denny Stadium to Denny Chimes.  You'll find the foot and hand prints of each Alabama captain from every Tide team captured forever in cement. When they crank "Sweet Home Alabama" on the PA during pre-game warmups, you'd think Skynyrd is in the house, ready to rock. At the end of each Bama victory, listen to the fans singing "Rammer Jammer."  The lyrics describe what has just taken place on the field.  On your way into the Stadium, you'll find colossal statues of Bama's national championship-winning coaches. Wallace Wade. Frank Thomas. Paul Bryant. Gene Stallings.  One more Alabama victory, and one lucky sculptor will be commissioned to craft Nick Saban's likeness.
