LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - From the minute you walk into Bonita Hicks' Longview Home, you know she has more than your average affection for the holidays.
"Sometimes I ask myself, 'Why didn't I stop at a 100? It would be easier,'" said Hicks.
Nearly every kind of Santa is on display: cooking Santa's, musical Santa's, biker Santas, even flying Santa's. Some she has made by hand, others are collectables. And, in case you are wondering, this all started as a way to help cheer up her then-ailing husband.
"It was about '81 maybe '82...I went shopping and I found a Santa, I brought it home and my husband just laughed, and of course that just fed me," said Hicks. "I thought I had to go out and get another one."
You might think it would be only one or two rooms. No, there is no room in the house that does not have a Santa Claus in it. There are over 2,000 of them. Even the bathrooms have Santas and, of course, Christmas trees.
"When I get them out near Christmas, put them up, it's just like seeing old friends," said Hicks. "I just enjoy it."
Her home has become something of a holiday tour attraction for neighbors.
"I've been over here several times and every time I see one that didn't see before," said Janet Schroeder.
Her hope is that her love of jolly old Saint Nick will send a simple message.
"I would just like people to enjoy themselves more and not worry so much about buying gifts," said Hicks. "I love Santa and I believe."
Hicks is not done with her collection. She says as long as there is Christmas, she will keep adding to the Santa collection.
