GLADEWATER, TX (KLTV) - It was a big welcome home for a Gladewater sailor after a long haul of duty in Iraq.

Navy Chief Petty Officer Randy Smith served two years in Iraq and surprised his mother by showing up at her front door last week. Smith addressed the Gladewater Lions Club about his tour and how good it feels to be home.

"I'm proud to be a Naval Chief Petty Officer," said Smith. "I'm proud to be in the U.S. military. It's the greatest military in the world. I'm proud to serve."

"It's been two years," said his mother, Cathy Smith. "He just got back from God knows where. No one will ever know proud we are of him."

Chief Petty Officer Smith is stateside for several months and is looking forward to his next duty station in Florida.
