TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Wednesday is the 236th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, and one local TEA party marked the occasion.

The Tyler TEA Party organized an event on the square in downtown Tyler Wednesday night, complete with replica flags from the revolutionary period, and even some who showed up in costume.

Organizers say, just like in 1773, the government is not listening to its constituents, and just like 1773, people can do something about it.

"They were just a few people, and we still remember them today because they were willing to take that hard step and risk their life, liberty and property to try to make things better," said Tammy Blair, with Tyler TEA Party. "We're doing the same thing."

Prater says that TEA parties across the country are holding similar demonstrations. The one in Tyler will include speakers, and a candle-lighting ceremony.
