VAN, TX (KLTV) - A Van ISD School bus driver has been suspended without pay after she failed to notice a child was left on her school bus Wednesday morning.
David Goff director of operations for Van ISD said the seven-year-old child fell asleep on the bus after it was parked in the bus barn. The child walked off the bus a short time later and went over to a bus monitor at the school.
Goff said the child was left alone no more than five minutes, but "it doesn't matter how short the time was, the bus driver failed to follow procedure and has been suspended."
The child's parents were notified of the incident. Goff said the bus driver has been with Van ISD for several years and there has never been a problem. This is the first time this has ever happened in the district.
The child is a student at Rose Elementary School in Van. The incident happened at 7:30am.
