JACKSONVILLE, TX - Several awards were presented Friday night at the City of Jacksonville's annual Christmas Party, with Fire Chief Paul White and Cemetery Superintendent Bennie Meza taking home top honors for the night as 2009's co-Employees of the Year.

Employee of the Year is determined via an anonymous vote among the city's 125-plus employees, and is presented each year at the Christmas party. This year's party took place Friday evening at the Norman Activity Center.

City Manager Mo Raissi said that Meza, who has been with the city since 1998, is always dependable – even when called in on nights and weekends. The city manager called Meza ‘the last person who would ever let you down."

White joined the city staff in 2008, but the city manager said he has made great efforts to improve his department during that short time span. Raissi called the fire chief a natural motivator who always gets the best out of the people beneath him.

Both men said receiving the award was a complete surprise for them.

Also taking home some hardware Friday night were Animal Control Officer Susan Clements who received the Outstanding Service Award, Children's Librarian Peggy Jo Jones who received the Commitment Award, Street Supervisor James Worley who received the Dedication Award and Chief Water Treatment Operator George Crawford who received the City Manager's Cornerstone Award.

Clements has worked for the City of Jacksonville for the last four years, Jones for the last 11 years, Worley for the last 19 years and Crawford for the last 23 years.
