DALLAS, TEXAS (KLTV) - Darian Godfrey passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead Gilmer to a 43-26 win over Abilene Wylie in the Class 3A Division I state championship Saturday night.
Gilmer (15-0) won its second state championship in four title game appearances.
ilmer also won the 3A Division II title in 2004.
Godfrey, a senior quarterback, was 21 of 29 passing for 273 yards. He also ran 19 times for another 146 yards and accounted for 419 of GilmerÂ's 492 yards of offense.
"I love the pressure," said Godfrey, "Coach Traylor told us that pressure was a challenge, and we came through, and now you look at it, and it is a joy, to have the pressure, and win it all anyway."
Wylie (12-2) trailed 21-0 midway through the second quarter but fought back to make it a 10-point game, 24-14, with 7:15 left in the third.
Godfrey then led Gilmer on a 93-yard scoring drive, highlighted by a 52-yard completion to Daniel McLaren, to push the lead to 30-14.
He capped the game late in the fourth, with a 6 yard touchdown and put a capper on the Buckeyes perfect season.
"I really cant describe it right now," said Gilmer's Ben Griffith, "I'm sure when things calm down, we will realize what we did, and when we look back, this is something that we can all be proud of, and not just us, but the town as well."
