Longview Man Becomes Successful Author

A local man makes the big time, from comic book store employee, to successful author and screen writer, and he says he owes his success to his first job at that Longview comic book store. His first job was sweeping floors at Alans comic's in Longview, but 37 year old B.J. Burrows has come a long way since then.

"Alan gave me my first job when I was 12 years old , I entered a screenplay in the Austin film festival placed well one of the production companies there read my script ended up picking it up" Burrows says.

He was at Alans today signing his latest book.

"Its called the changed , its about a zombie that runs for the senate! when I got the word from my agent that the novel had sold went out got a bottle of champagne popped it and me and my wife sprayed each other like we were the New York Yankees winning the world series" says B.J.

Not only a published science fiction author , he's had a movie made with David Carradine called the Monster Hunter, which has run on the Sci-fi channel. He says his secret to success is simple.

"Reading and just working at alans and reading all the comics and learning story-telling and just not stopping" he says.

And he has one piece of advice for anyone holding on to a dream.

"I think the main thing is being persistent if you have a dream like writing or acting whenever someone tells you know take that to heart and say I'm going to prove you wrong, you have to slow down and enjoy the moments" he says.

Burrow's family still lives in Longview. He lives in Austin with his wife and two children, and is still writing science fiction. Bob Hallmark reporting/bhallmark@kltv.com
