Pearl Harbor anniversary, East Texans reflect

By Jamey Boyum - email

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Sixty-eight years ago, Japanese forces attacked the home base of the U.S. Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

The Japanese attack sank four American battleships and destroyed 188 planes. Thousands of sailors, marines and soldiers were killed, many of whom are still entombed in the submerged U.S.S. Arizona.

Click on the video in the upper right-hand corner of this page to watch as KLTV's Jamey Boyum introduces us to some East Texans we have featured on our segment known as Freedom Fighters who survived that attack.

Over 2,400 Americans lost their lives during those long hours in December of 1941. We are now losing nearly half that amount of World War II veterans every day.
