LONGVIEW, TX - Longview Police Officers were busy overnight Sunday, making traffic stops that resulted in seized narcotics, money and stolen handguns.

The first traffic stop occurred at Lilly and Birdsong Streets at around 11:00 p.m. when Officer M. Bailey saw a red GMC Yukon run a stop sign. Officer Bailey, and his K-9 partner Pistol, made contact with the driver, Tyrone Potter, and smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, Officer Bailey located marijuana cigars, ecstasy and Viagra pills and bundles of cash that totaled almost $5000.00.

The illegal narcotics and cash were seized and Potter was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (3rd degree felony), possession of marijuana (Class B misdemeanor) and possession of a dangerous drug (Class A misdemeanor). Tyrone Jamarc Potter, date of birth 3-5-1974 of 113 Brooks Longview, was booked into the Gregg County Jail.

The second traffic stop occurred at around 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of Dudley and Caldwell Streets when Officer M. Falkner observed a suspicious Chevrolet Malibu driving erratically at the Tree House Apartments. When Officer Falkner initiated a traffic stop, the driver, Jasmeon Oquinn, 28, of Longview, jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers Falkner and J. Reeves captured Oquinn and placed him into custody.

Officer Falkner located marijuana cigars and a 9mm handgun inside of the Malibu in plain view. Upon searching the vehicle, Officer Falkner also located a second handgun, over 300 grams of liquid codeine, and several Xanax pills. When officers checked the serial numbers on the handguns, they found both were reported stolen from a residential burglary in Longview earlier this year.

Oquinn was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon (3rd degree felony), theft of a firearm (State jail felony), evading arrest-prior conviction (State jail felony), possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute (2nd degree felony) and possession of marijuana (Class B misdemeanor). A passenger in Oquinn's vehicle, Latricia Hicks, was also arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and an outstanding traffic warrant.

Both Oquinn and Hicks were booked into the Gregg County Jail.
