LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - A day care center in Longview suddenly closes with state records showing they had several inspection problems. Workers at the Toy Box daycare on Gilmer Road confirmed that state workers closed their doors Thursday.
According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, the facility had been on probation over numerous inspection deficiencies over the past year. The department web site shows that Toy Box was cited for several "high risk level" non-compliances. And, in one case, nine children under the age of two were observed alone in the room while the caregiver was in the bathroom with the door closed.
"They failed to establish a pattern of compliance," said Shari Pulliam, a TDFPS Public Information Officer. "The majority of these deficiencies were high - they were high to medium risk, and these deficiencies posed a risk to the health and safety of children."
Pulliam says her department will monitor the site periodically to be sure it is not being used as a day care facility.
