TYLER, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas woman has died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the roadway in the 1700 block of SSW Loop 323 at about 2pm Thursday afternoon.
According to police, Victoria Alison Miles, 25, who worked at the nearby Valero gas station, was returning to work after running to the Region's Bank across the street. She was waiting on the Loop's median to cross back to the Valero when a blue 2007 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck ran up on the median, striking her.
The suspect did drive off, but police were able to capture him, making the arrest near a nightclub. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Gerald Lane Bourque, 45, of Smith County. Officers determined that Bourque was under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest on the scene for Intoxication Manslaughter.
Victoria Miles was transported to East Texas Medical Center, later dying from her injuries.
Witnesses at the scene stated that when Miles was struck, her money went flying into the air. Two men stopped and got out of their vehicle, taking several currency bills and then drove off.
