An East Texas girl is dead after an ATV accident in Van over the weekend.
Thirteen year-old Tara Jett died Sunday after her four wheeler collided with another one. Police reports say her ATV flipped over, and she wasn't wearing a helmet.
Jett was a student at Van Junior High, where teachers worked with counselors and clergy today. Students were encouraged to discuss what happened.
"It's one of those situations where it's a healing process for the kids just to talk," Van ISD Spokesman David Goff said. "We always look for teachable moments, this is a teachable moment."
"For the kids, you just have to listen."
To continue to help Tara's grieving classmates, there was a gathering Monday night at Tara's church, the United Methodist Church in Van. The funeral is set for two o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Hilliard's Funeral Home in Van.
