Brook Hill plays underdog role well

BULLARD, TEXAS (KLTV) -  Brook Hill lineman Heath Dickey says it's like David vs Goliath.  The Guard are one win away from their first state football championship.  Saturday's opponent, Waco Reicher, has 18 seniors in the starting lineup.   Compare that to four seniors on Brook Hill's entire roster.

"It feels like we don't have much of a chance," said Brook Hill Junior Tallen Harris.  "That's how we like it actually. All of us like being the underdogs. And all of us want to just show up and show everyone wrong."

If you're writing off Brook Hill, you'd probably be making a big mistake.  The team has used all the doubts to fuel their fire this year.  Now they're in the state title game for the first time in school history.

If Brook Hill really is playing the role of David, David is supposed to win.

"But that's what we've been doing all year is coming out of nowhere," said Dickey, one of just four seniors on the Brook Hill roster.  "We're the underdogs. The scariest guy in a fight isn't the guy that's beating you up. It's that guy that keeps getting up after he gets beat up."

The Guard play for the state title Saturday night in Killeen at 7 p.m.
