LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - About 250 East Texans are scrambling to find new jobs after a sooner than expected layoff. Tuesday, Sitel began laying off employees from their Longview facility. The job cuts were announced last month and were supposed to happen after December 31st.

Many, like Gloria Watson, had been employed at the facility for more than a decade. But, in an impromptu meeting, employees were told that a key contract had been canceled and Tuesday was their last day.

"It does upset lives," said Gloria Watson, a former Sitel employee. "I know other people had lost their jobs as well, but given the date we were given it gave us something to work towards that we could actually make some adjustments in our lives at the last minute. It did kind of shock us a little bit."

Company officials say they are working with other businesses and the East Texas Workforce Commission to find jobs for the laid off employees.
