Released by Sheriff Ray Nutt with Henderson County:
HENDERSON COUNTY, TX - On November 27,2009 Henderson County Sheriff's Office Deputy Sgt Thomas Goodell responded to a call of a deceased person off of FM 59 in a wooded area beside the roadway 1.5 miles north of the Anderson County Line. The body was first found by a road crew working in the area. Investigators and command staff were called to the scene. Forensic evidence and the suspected murder weapon were collected at the scene.
The deceased was identified as Elizalde Jose-Morales a 52 year Malakoff man. Morales was last seen attending a party at the Laredo Ballroom in Malakoff on November 26th. Judge Tommy Barnett ordered the body to be sent to the Dallas Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy. Autopsy results showed that Morales had received 26 stab and sharp force trauma wounds causing his death.
Investigator Bryan Tower and Major Kevin Hanes are actively pursuing leads at this time and the case is under investigation. The Henderson County DA's 's Office and Texas Rangers are working with the Sheriff's Office on this case.
Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt and District Attorney Scott McKee assisted on the crime scene. Shady Oaks fire Department also assisted with traffic control on scene.
