Tyler man killed in shootout

SHREVEPORT, LA (KLTV)- A Tyler man is dead following a shootout with police officers in Louisiana.

Shreveport police say their encounter with 27-year-old Jacob M. Morrison first started when he held up a bank Wednesday morning.

Witnesses say Morrison walked into a bank on Greenwood Road and fired several rounds from a handgun, ordering everyone to the ground.

While robbing the bank Morrison allegedly took a customer hostage as he made his way to the back of the bank where he took an undisclosed amount of money.

Morrison released his hostage and took off on a motorcycle.

Police say once they found Morrison he started discarding evidence from the bank robbery, got off the motorcycle and started firing at officers.

Detective Cpl. Jack Miller returned fired hitting Morrison several times. Det. Miller was injured in the shooting. A second officer, Cpl. Antwone Lane, also fired at Morrison.

Morrison was transported to LSUHSC where he later died.
