LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Forget about boot camp! Longview Fitness members and their families loaded up for "Thanksgiving camp." Their target? To make sure less fortunate families got a free Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. Going door to door, the members made East Texas families' dreams come true.
For Joyce Poss the Thanksgiving dinner meant the world.
"I thought I was left out," said Poss. "I thought I was in the cold. I'd give anything if I could do it. I'd give anything if I could give back."
Melony Banks and her three kids couldn't be more cheerful and thankful for the meal.
"It's good," said Banks. "I'm just happy, and I always hear about the Longview Fitness Center on television and I might need help with that myself but I'm glad and I thank you so much."
It was one delivery after another.
"That really kind of made my day," said Alecia Dickerson. "I hope my mom didn't buy a turkey yet. I just think that's really awesome because I'm always helping people and it's nice for somebody to kind of think about me for a change, so I really appreciate that. Thank you!"
So why give on this Thanksgiving?
"It's been a rough year for a lot of people and we knew God blessed us and we wanted to just give back," said Longview Fitness trainer Blake Hunter.
"We want to bless God so we can give people some food, like if they didn't have no food," said Dmarius Hunter.
"I just wish everyone can have a happy Thanksgiving with their family," said Katelynn Springer.
Longview Fitness members say they had an overwhelming response from volunteers and people needing help. Because of that response, they say they're going to giveaway more dinners for Christmas.
