SPRING HILL, TX (KLTV) - Some third and fourth graders gave an East Texas women's shelter a Thanksgiving can food feast.

Spring Hill Intermediate students donated nearly 2,000 canned foods to the House of Hope women's shelter. It took the students less than three weeks to bring in cans to donate.

The kids say even though it was a, "who can brings the most cans" competition, they all felt the most important reason for the food drive was to give to people who need it most.

"It's good to give, and so that people can have food for Thanksgiving 'cause not everybody has food for Thanksgiving, and we want everyone a good thanksgiving," said Katie Easley, a 4th grader.

"What we get during Christmas and Thanksgiving is what supports us during 90-percent of the year," said Terresa Mackey. "So this is a really big, really big deal."

House of Hope says the food will feed hundreds of women that come through the shelter. As for who brought in the most cans, little Katie says 4th grade won.
