02/27/03 The latest and greatest Fishing report from Barry Hanson

Where are the good spots to fish?

TODAY'S UNDERSTATEMENT, VERY FEW ANGLERS ON THE WATER. THERE'S ABOUT THREE GOOD REASONS FOR THAT, THE COLD TEMPS WE'VE HAD, THUS COLD WATER, THE WIND AND A LOT OF RAIN THAT HAS SEVERAL LAKES WITH THE FLOOD GATES OPEN CREATING CURRENT THAT THE FISH ARE NOT ACCUSTOMED TO. PUT ALL THAT TOGETHER AND YOU'VE GOT SUSPENDED FISH THAT ARE NOT FEEDING, SO, NO BITES. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS PROBABLY THE SAND BASS AND ANGLERS HAVE BEEN DOING QUITE WELL AS THEY BEGIN TO SCHOOL AND MOVE UP THE RIVERS TO SPAWN, THEY WOULD EVEN BE BETTER WITH A LITTLE SUNSHINE.

LET'S BE OPTIMISTIC NOW AND LOOK AT THE LAKES...

LAKE PALESTINE

LIGHTLY STAINED WATER AT 50 DEG. WITH BLACK BASS FAIR ON JIGS AND CAROLINA RIGGED BLACK/BLUE WORMS. CRAPPIE FAIR TO GOOD ON MINNOWS AND JIGS AROUND THE DAM. CATFISH FAIR ON TROTLINES WITH CUT SHAD. HYBRID STRIPER AND WHITE BASS FAIR ON CHROME RAT-L-TRAPS AND SLABS.

MARTIN CREEK LAKE

A HOT WATER LAKE THAT WILL BE BUSY THIS WEEKEND, CLEAR WATER NORMAL POOL AND BLACK BASS GOOD ON RED RAT-L-TRAPS AND SPINNERBAITS. CRAPPIE ARE GOOD ON MINNOWS AND JIGS. CATFISH ARE FAIR ON CATFISH CHARLIE, CHICKEN LIVERS, AND NIGHTCRAWLERS.

LAKE O THE PINES

CLEAR WATER AT 52 DEG. NORMAL POOL WITH BLACK BASS SLOW ON JIGGING SPOONS IN 25 TO 30FT. YELLOW BASS GOOD ON MINNOWS AND JIGS ON 30FT. FLATS. CRAPPIE ARE EXCELLENT ON MINNOWS AND JIGS IN THE OLD RIVER CHANNEL IN 35 TO 40FT. CATFISH ARE SLOW ON NIGHTCRAWLERS AND STINKBAIT.

LAKE FORK

CLEAR TO LIGHTLY STAINED AT 47 TO 50 DEG. WITH BLACK BASS SLOW TO FAIR ON WHITE OR RED 3/8 OZ FRANK JOHNSON SPINNERBAITS AND RED 1/2 OZ RAT-L-TRAPS FISHED ON MAIN LAKE BANKS WITH HEAVY CONCENTRATIONS OF HYDRILLA. RED BANDIT 100 OR 200 SERIES CRANKBAITS, AND SUSPENDED JERKBAITS ARE PRODUCING ON THE EDGES OF TREE LINES AND HYDRILLA. CRAPPIE ARE FAIR ON MINNOWS AND JIGS. CATFISH ARE FAIR ON NIGHTCRAWLERS AND STINKBAIT. THE FLOOD GATES ARE OPEN AT FORK.

CEDAR CREEK LAKE

STAINED WATER AT 46 DEG. AND 6 INCHES HIGH. FISHING REPORTED GENERALLY SLOW. WHITE BASS ARE FAIR ON SMALL JIGGING SPOONS OVER MIDLAKE HUMPS, SOME BEGINNING TO SHOW UP IN CREEKS IN THE NORTH END OF THE LAKE ON SMALL ROAD RUNNER TYPE BAITS.

EAST TEXAS ANGLER FISHING SHOW RETURNS ON SATURDAY MAR. 8TH JOIN ME THEN. AS WE SAY IN OUR SKEETER BOATS, EAT, SLEEP AND FISH, I'M BARRY HANSON, SEE YOU ON THE WATER.
