TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Three escaped Pit Bulls responsible for three attacks in an East Texas neighborhood are now in the custody of animal control.

The attacks began Wednesday when a group of three Pit Bulls escaped from their pen and attacked three area dogs in a four block area of north Tyler.

Tyler Police responded within minutes, firing shots to break up the pit bull pack. Two of the escaped dogs were caught soon after, the remaining third Pit Bull was captured by animal control around noon Thursday.

"These animals had gotten into a pack hunting mentality which all dogs are pack hunters," said Shawn Markmann with Tyler Animal Control, "But these three dogs are bred to be aggressive and were so."

Animal control tells us the Pit Bull owners have been contacted but have yet to claim any of their dogs. The owners will receive citations for breaking city leash laws and dangerous animal conduct.
