Wind Causes Spill in Rusk County

The breezy weather, and gusty winds did more than knock down trees, it contributed to a chemical spill in Rusk county.

Just before 2 Sunday afternoon, a tree fell onto a power line just south of Henderson, tearing 3 voltage regulators off a power pole.

The regulators were filled with 150 gallons of a mineral type oil that spilled into a ditch and a nearby creek.

Work crews and a hazmat team that was called in out of Longview worked as quickly as possible to stop the oil before it saturated the ground and got down stream.

The crews will be back at the site tommorrow to dig up the saturated soil in the area.
