FORT HOOD, TX (KLTV) - Many of the victims of Fort Hood's terrible massacre were young, preparing for their first deployments. Army Specialist Kham Xiong, a father of three, was standing in line for a physical when he was shot dead. 21-year-old Francheska Velez had just returned from Iraq. She was pregnant. 21-year-old private first class Keara Bono, who was deploying to Iraq next month, was shot in the back. And 21-year-old Joey Foster was shot in the hip.

"He was pulling guys to safety and hadn't even realized he'd been shot," said Aggie Foster, the mother of a victim. "[It makes me feel] proud."

Friday, family, friends and fellow soldiers had a moment of silence for the victims. One Army official has called the massacre, "a kick in the gut."
