KILGORE, TX (KLTV) - It says Texas perhaps like no other food: Chili.

In Kilgore, it was the focus of the 17th Annual East Texas Oilman's Chili Cook-off to see who could make the tastiest batch. Seventy-seven teams, many from neighboring states, brought their secret recipe's to Kilgore, vying for top honors in the craft of making chili.

"The seasoning of the meat and the flavor, it's really the flavor in the first bit," said Shaun Jackson. "You can tell just by the flavor."

It's all to raise money for the Kilgore Crisis Center. Thousands show up to the one day event every year - treated to saloon chili, New York chili, Mardi Gras chili and even pirate chili.

So, is there a secret to good chili?

"The secret to good chili is not to burn it," said Matt Fogarty, with M-5 Inc Chili.

Some of it was outstanding and some...well!...the heartburn was worth it.

And the winners are:
Best in Show - General Dynamics
Peoples Choice Winner - Wooley Tool-Geonix
The Judge's Overall Winner - P&W Sales

Congrats! And, Pepto for everybody.
