Cheap Eats: Long time, no see

BIG SANDY, TX (KLTV) - It had been awhile, but I trusted my instincts and went north to Big Sandy. A giant flashing arrow had me flashing back to Vegas. Taqueria el Unico may not offer Texas hold em, but tacos it does. Owner Luis Loera "bulked up" your first Cheap Eat with slow cooked beef. Step by step the flavorful fiesta came together. Loera finished up and brought it out: a super quesadilla and a can drink for only $4.86.

I left ready for the open road in search of our next cheap eat and...stop. That's right, just next door to the Taqueria was Mama Gage's Crazy Cafe. It promised two things: a crazy atmosphere and good food.

Rookie restaurateur Laura Gage did not let me down.

"Our main thing was to get a real good hamburger for a real good price," said Gage.

From the grill to the bun, Gage built a burger fitting the smallest budgets and the biggest stomachs.

A quarter pound hamburger or cheeseburger with an order of fries and a can drink or a tea is only $4.30. My third stop took me east to a spot celebrating 14 years of good food.

Edgar's Taco has a simple strategy: don't mess with a good thing. So, they keep the menu simple. The quesadilla called my name and was soon handed over.

Edgar doesn't sell drinks, but considering his location he doesn't have to. Right next door you can get a can drink of your choice for just $.63. Add that to the quesadilla and you get your Cheap Eats champion with a quesadilla and a can drink for only for just $3.63.
