State resources deployed to Marshall

MARSHALL, TX - Representative Tommy Merritt announces the State Operations Center has activated and is deploying state resources as a result of the major storm system that is moving through our area and causing additional flooding in East Texas.  Five Texas military forces high profile vehicles are staged in the National Guard armory in Marshall.

Rep. Merritt stated, "I appreciate the State Operations Center sending personnel and vehicles to assist with potential rescue efforts in our community. Our Texas military forces stand ready to provide emergency aid to our citizens."

During the 81 Legislative Session, Rep. Merritt secured funding for a DPS helicopter to be stationed at East Texas Regional Airport.  The new helicopter will be outfitted with equipment to aid in swift water rescues.

Rep. Merritt is Chairman of the House Committee on Public Safety and serves on the House Committees on Transportation, Local & Consent Calendars and Redistricting.  He represents Gregg County and northern Smith County to include Winona, Lindale and Hideaway Lake.
