Murder victim stabbed multiple times, suspect arrested

VANZANDT COUNTY - On Sunday October 25, 2009 at approximately 12:30 am the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle accident on Van Zandt County Road 4907.

The Deputies were informed that one of the victims of the crash had possibly been stabbed. Upon arrival Deputies observed Jonathan Shipman lying on the ground suffering from multiple stab wounds. Deputies advised that there was also a female identified as Shelly Rackow who also was injured.

Deputies asked Rackow what had happened and Rackow advised that Shipman had been stabbed by a man named Wilhelm Ostrom. Investigators were called to the scene to investigate the stabbing. Investigator Charles Allen went to the East Texas Medical Center in Tyler where he learned that Jonathan Shipman had died due to being stabbed multiple times. Investigator Allen also learned that Shelly Rackow had been cut across the throat by Ostrom during the altercation.

Ostrom was arrested the same day and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly weapon for cutting Rackow. Ostrom was arraigned and his bond set at $100,000.00. Ostrom has been charged with the offense of Murder for his involvement in the death of Jonathan Shipman. Bond has been set at $1,000,000.00 with conditions.
