Tyler teen shot, suspect arrested

Released by the Tyler Police Department:

TYLER, TX - On October 26, 2009 at approximately 2:29 a.m. the Tyler Police Department was notified of gunshots in the area of Outer Dr. and W. 5th St.  As Tyler Police Officers responded to the scene they learned that an individual, identified as Marcus Jones, 19, from Tyler had sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to the Trinity Mother Frances Hospital. It was later learned that the injury was non-life threatening.

At this same time, officers arriving on scene were informed that the suspect, later identified as Christopher Smith, 19, from Tyler was located at a residence in 1700 block of Outer Dr. Officers then located the residence the suspect was believed to be inside and within moments the suspect was taken into custody.

As officers continued their investigation Marcus Jones confirmed that Christopher Smith was the shooter and the weapon believed to have been used during the incident was found at the scene. As officers investigated the incident they spoke with all available parties, including the Christopher Smith.

Following their interview with Christopher Smith he was booked in to Smith County jail for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Felony of the Second Degree.
