Released by Lt. Roman Roberson with Kilgore Police:

KILGORE, TX - On Friday, at 7:18 P.M. the Kilgore Police Department responded to a report of a reckless driver traveling Westbound on State Highway 31. Before police could locate the suspect vehicle, it crashed head on into another vehicle just west of the State Highway 31 and Fritz-Swanson intersection.

The suspect vehicle was determined to be a 1991 Subaru, four door, operated by Fredrick Hill, 45 years of age, of Kilgore. Initial investigation showed the Subaru, traveling Westbound, had crossed into oncoming traffic causing a head on crash with a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, which was traveling Eastbound. The driver of the Suburban was identified as Chad Metcalf, 37 years of age, of Winona. Passengers in the Suburban were identified as Amanda Metcalf, 32 years of age and Cooper Metcalf, 2 years of age.

The Metcalf family was transported to Trinity Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler by Champion EMS for medical treatment due to injuries sustained in the crash. Members of the Metcalf family were all listed in stable condition.

Fredrick Hill was extracted from his vehicle by the Kilgore Rescue Unit. Mr. Hill was then transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview where he soon succumbed to his injuries and died.

Evidence of alcohol involvement was discovered on scene and may have been a factor in the crash. The accident is being investigated by Kilgore Police Department Traffic Officer John Rowe.
