LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas soldier, badly burned in an explosion, is back in the states.

Family members say 19-year-old PFC Matthew Harris is at Brooks Army Medical Hospital in San Antonio.

Harris, a graduate of Leverett's Chapel High school, suffered burns on 40 percent of his body in a non-combat explosion in Afghanistan.

Matthew's mother says he underwent another surgery Sunday and is still in pain, but is reportedly in good spirits. The family says they are thankful for the concern and prayers of East Texans.
