Battle of Pineywoods on the move

TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV) -  The 'Battle of the Pineywoods' is on the move.  Lone Star Sports & Entertainment has announced that beginning in 2010, S.F.A. and Sam Houston State football will play each other at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

"I would like to thank Jamey Rootes and the Houston Texans for having such a great interest in the Stephen F. Austin-Sam Houston State rivalry," said SFA Director of Athletics Robert Hill. "I would also like to thank Chris Keeney and Lone Star Sports and Entertainment for their work getting an agreement in place so that this could actually take place.

"I'm flattered that Reliant would be interested in the Battle of the Piney Woods. The students and fans from both schools look forward to this game every season. The alumni base from both schools in the greater Houston area makes this a very appealing opportunity."

The rivalry will be in Houston for at least the next four years.  There will be an option to continue the series after 2013.

With the smallest enrollment in District 17-5A, and really across the entire classification, Lindale could use that as an excuse for a sub-par season. But under defensive coordinator, turned head coach Chris Cochran, that won't be the case.
