Honorees for the 2010 Women Who Rise to the Occasion as Stars Over Longview

LONGVIEW -  Longview Regional Medical Center will be celebrating 10 years of recognizing local women at their annual Stars Over Longview awards luncheon on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Maude Cobb Activity Center.

"Each year during the months of August and September, the Longview Regional Medical Center Women's Advisory Council receives an abundant amount of nominations for Stars Over Longview selection. The Women's Advisory Council, which is made up of 16 local business-women, volunteers and activists, have the onerous task of selecting the women to be honored from the host of praiseworthy candidates." said Kim Brown, Director of Marketing.  "The 12 extraordinary women chosen and honored during the event exemplify the public's temperament that is alive and well throughout our great community.  Longview Regional Medical Center and the hospital's Women's Advisory Council take great pride in presenting the Stars Over Longview Event each year," said Brown.

"The names of the 2010 honorees were announced on October 13, 2009.  These are the women who will be honored at our 10 Year Anniversary Celebration Event in January as our 2010 Stars Over Longview, Women Who Rise to the Occasion", she added. 

The honorees, which were chosen by Longview Regional's Women's Advisory Council, will also appear on a 2010 Stars Over Longview calendar, which will be made public at the event.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.  The Senator's Texas roots run deep. Thomas Rusk of Nacogdoches was the first Texan to hold the U.S. Senate seat she currently occupies. He and Senator Hutchison's great-great-grandfather, Charles S. Taylor, were friends and both signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. Senator Hutchison grew up in La Marque, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas and UT

Law School. She was twice elected to the Texas House of Representatives. In 1990, she was elected Texas State Treasurer. In June 2000, she and several colleagues coauthored Nine and Counting: The Women of the Senate, and in 2004, she released her second book,

American Heroines: The Spirited Women Who Shaped Our Country. Sen. Hutchison published her most recent bestseller, Leading Ladies: American Trailblazers, in October 2007. The Senator lives in Dallas with her husband, Ray, and their two children, Bailey and Houston.

Doors for the event will open at 11:30 a.m. and the awards luncheon will begin at noon. Longview Regional will be providing complimentary valet parking at Maude Cobb for the Stars Over Longview celebration.  Tickets are $25 and include a plated, hot lunch catered by Lori's Eats and Sweets of Gilmer.  Tickets for the event will be available for sale beginning in mid-November.
