Speak your mind ... on your behind?

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A "butt-ing" East Texas entrepreneur (yes, the pun is intended) is bringing freedom of expression to interesting new places.

William Starks, President and CEO of Starks Industries, Inc, is building his empire based on one simple principle.

"Bumper stickers for your butt," said Starks. "Being able to say what's on your mind."

It's an idea Starks says he has had for several years now.

"The first one I thought of was "Butt Notes"...but I thought that was a little too crude," he explained. "And well, I said, 'What's another name for butt? You know, it'd be your behind...and it's a line for your behind."

And, Behind Lines was born. He says it took some time to come up with the leather square that, simply, folds over your waistband.

"I thought, plastic...well, not only will it pinch you, it can slide real easily," said Starks. "First, I thought about hand-tooling, but it takes way too long...by chance, I found a laser machine that would do this."

Old or young, there's a message to butt...I'm sorry...boot...from the "spiritual" to the "satirical" and, of course, the "political." Stark has his favorite though.

"It's a dog eat dog world and I'm wearing milk bone underwear," he laughs.

And, if you don't like any of the dozens of messages Behind Lines offers, you can always create your own.

"I really don't want to encourage people to be nasty with it," he said. "I'd like to see them have some fun...sporting events...if you want to identify each other at a family reunion...or church group."

Aside from success, the budding businessman has other intentions.

"Put a bunch of machines here...and put a bunch of local people to work...and the more we grow, the more we'll be able to do more for people here," he said.

One waistline at a time. A Behind Line will run you about $10 plus shipping and handling. And, there's even a smaller size for kids. You can check them out yourself by clicking here.
