A longtime suspect in an East Texas muder case is trying to clear his name through a court petition. Five capital murder indictments were handed down by a Gregg County Jury back in 1995 against Jimmy Mankins. Mankins had been a suspect in the shooting deaths of 5 people who were kidnapped from a Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1983. But D-N-A evidence does not link Mankins to the crime. Now his attorney has filed a petition of expunction to clear his record of the indictments. Mankins is currently in federal prison in Texarkana on a drug conviction.
