TYLER, TX (KLTV) - It's official. The Texas Rose Festival is underway. Rose Queen Emily Anne Austin cut the ribbon Thursday, officially kicking off the 76th Rose Festival. The ceremony begins the traditional weekend of events in the Rose City. And, for the first time, a prayer service accompanied the ribbon cutting. Rose Queen Austin says the Tyler event is famous, even outside of East Texas!
"And, if you go somewhere, I always thought it was just Tyler and we know about it, but I live in Dallas, and people, they know about it," said Austin. "They're like, 'The Texas Rose Festival?' It's nationally known, and it's a big deal, and it's unique to our own city, and we're very proud of it."
The Rose Festival continues Thursday with the Ladies Brunch and Men's Luncheon. Saturday's Rose Parade begins at 9:30am.
