Smith County D.A. Says Commissioners' Breakfast Meeting Violated Law

The Smith County D.A.'s Office has issued a ruling on a controversial breakfast attended by the county commissioners. The D.A. says commissioners did violate the Texas Open Meetings Act when they all had breakfast Monday morning with members of the Smith County Extension Service.

However, since the meeting was not closed to the public and there was no conspiracy, there will be no action. County Judge Becky Dempsey said the gathering was informal, but that in the future all meetings will be publicized ahead of time.
