BIG SANDY, TX (KLTV) - For the second week a row, an East Texas police department is involved in a high speed chase with fugitives.
It happened around 11:30 a.m. Friday in Big Sandy on Highway 80, in a wild chase that lasted 20 minutes and ended in Wood county. The chase began when Big Sandy police spotted 31-year-old Noel Weatherby at a convenience store. Weatherby had a long arrest history in Upshur county and was wanted on drug warrants.
When police attempted to pull the vehicle over he and another unidentified suspect led police on a chase where speeds were clocked at 120 miles per hour down Highway 80, then down county roads.
When they took a dangerously unexpected turn at high speeds, the vehicle jumped off on the road to shake authorities. The fugitives crashed through a fence and sped away after police stopped pursuit worrying of public safety.
Weatherby and the second suspect were last seen driving the white Pontiac Grand Prix G-T. Anyone with information about the two suspects whereabouts are asked to call Big Sandy police or the Upshur county sheriffs office.
