LONGVIEW, TX - The City of Longview Fire-Rescue Department is sponsoring a Block Party in recognition of October as National Fire Prevention Month. The event will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 3, at the Longview Fire-Rescue Training Center, 307 American Legion Blvd.

"Education about fire prevention and fire safety is one of the primary concerns for our department," said Fire Chief Michael Pruitt. "This Block Party is an opportunity for residents to become familiar with fire safety, to see firefighting equipment, and to meet department personnel."

The Block Party is open to the public. The event will include free hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks. The department will provide demonstrations of fire extinguisher use, Fire Engine functionality, and High Angle Rescue. Other activities include interactive firefighting display for children, special appearance by Patches the Fire Robot Dog, inflatable obstacle course, inflatable rock climbing course, and bucket rides.
