TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The East Texas State Fair offers a smorgasbord of sights, sounds and smells. But, the smells were what I was after, and the Cheap Eats were everywhere!
Like Dub's Bar-b-que stand, where a sign said it all: $.99. Owner Art Colvin dishes out nearly 400 pounds of beef a day, all in the name of value. And, everybody's favorite was no surprise. I found a $.99 cent chopped beef sandwich. The sandwich plus fries and a drink is $5.
Next door I found Shorty's, a Cajun institution where owner Keren Minnix dished up a steaming bowl of gumbo that sent me straight to the bayou. Add an iced cold sweet tea for a grand total of $5.
I weaved my way through crowds to Taterhut, expert in all things spud. They whipped up a foot long hot dog with all the fixins and a tea for, yeah, you guessed it, $5.
On down the road, Aaron's Smokehouse was hard to miss. Owner Darell Aaron gave me some of the good stuff. An applesmoked chopped beef sandwich, chips and a drink for just five bucks even.
There are no tie breakers in this adventure. Everyone is a Cheap Eats champion.
Bonus Cheap Eat: Ted Kamel's Burger Stand A burger, fries and drink for $5
