Fried food heaven at East Texas State Fair

By Philippe Djegal - email

TYLER,TX (KLTV) - Regardless of age, there's always plenty of fun to go around at the East Texas State Fair. And, since the rain stayed away from Tyler today, that gave East Texans a chance to head out to the fairgrounds - where all of the food is fried, and, families can enjoy a vacation in their own backyard.

But, you've gotta be kidding me. Since when did we start frying corn on the cobb? And, why in the world are we frying our pizza? And, whose bright idea was it to fry peach cobbler?

"Yes, they have fried butter this year," said Raven Washington. "I don't care too much for fried food."

Raven - I don't blame you. But, the fact is that the frying station is one of the fair's main attractions. I mean, where else can you find fried oreos?

Other than the opportunity to further clog your arteries, there is plenty of fun to go around at the fair. In fact that this year's slogan is "have all the fun you want - we'll make more." If you're looking for an adrenaline rush. . .

"I like to go really fast, because it feels really fun," said Trinity Olivo.

Then, this is the place for you. Everything's spinning. Meaning, there's never a dull moment.

"Hi daddy," said Logan Moser. "I'm on tv."

Logan and his twin brother are taking their girlfriends on a double date.

"[It] actually gets better when you're older, because it's more fun," said Logan. "You get to experience more, and then, your parents aren't around so, you get to do whatever you want."

"It's pretty fun," said Craig Moser. "But, it's kind of expensive since I have to pay for everything."

Well, it is a date man.

Hey, look. More twins.

"It reminds me of when we were kids," said Amy Jeffus. "Like, when we used to go ride all these rides when we were kids, and fights about who was going first, and which seat, you know - yea. It does."

"I haven't been brought here much in my life. So, this is my childhood," said Logan Moser. "So, I get to act like I'm eight again."

Did you just take a shot at your parents? I asked.

"Haha, yea," said Logan.

Like I said. There's never a dull moment at the fair.

The fair is up and running at the East Texas Fairgrounds in Tyler through next Sunday. It's open from 10a.m. - 11p.m. Monday through Thursday. It closes at midnight on Friday and Saturday, And, then again at 11p.m. on Sunday.
