Longview Doctor, Former NASA Technician

For Longview neurologist, Dr. Liana Dawson the Columbia crash brought back painful memories of her first brush with space travel disaster... the Challenger disaster, when she was employed with NASA's shuttle program.

With NASA for 14 years, she worked the first 8 missions of the shuttle program as a shuttle flight training instructor for the orbiter project, and even wrote the software for the landing program. But the recent crash of Columbia sparked memories of 1986. Dawson had worked closely with the crew of Challenger, becoming close friends with the astronauts. Though far removed now, she still feels a part of it, through victories and tragedies, and holds on to something that few people ever get a chance to experience.
