TYLER, TX (KLTV) - For the first time in nine months, a soldier has come back to East Texas for a few days off. Army Specialist Omar Gonzalez returned home for his first break since January. Gonzalez, who is currently serving his second tour of duty in Iraq, was emotional seeing his wife and all of the East Texans who turned out to greet him. He said for his time off, he has some pretty simple goals.

"[With my] 20 days off...I'm going to go see the country," said Specialist Gonzalez. "I want to walk on fresh green grass. I miss the grass and the clean air."

"I'm just overwhelmed with the enjoyment of all of the wonderful people who came here to participate as well," said Samantha Gonzalez, the specialist's wife.

Specialist Gonzalez is a 10 year army veteran.
