PALESTINE, TX (AP) - Summer storms that caused two roof collapses at the Palestine Public Library could force staff to move all the materials.
The north wing roof came down Sunday. Part of the south wing roof fell in July. Library Director Carol Herrington says the library will have to find a new home until repairs can be completed.
Herrington told the Palestine Herald-Press that she has been searching for alternate locations in the city of almost 18,000, located 110 miles southeast of Dallas. Herrington says a facility with at least 5,000 square feet is needed, which is less than half the size of the current library.
She says the damaged building was shored up Tuesday night. The library director says only a few reference books were destroyed in this week's storm.
