Firefighters out for blood (in a good way)

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Smith County Firehouses out for blood, but in a good way.

Smith County Firehouses are teaming with Carter Bloodcare to try and give 100 units of blood over the next two weeks, and are asking for the community's support in reaching their goal.

The goal of the Fire House Challenge blood drive is to raise awareness of the need for blood year round and to remind community members that there is never a shortage of blood, only a shortage of donors. Additionally, we want to invite everyone to attend the upcoming 4th Annual Combat Challenge on September 25th and 26th in the Broadway Square Mall parking lot, during which firefighters showcase a test of skills and agility used everyday on the job.  The family friendly event is free and open to the public.  All prizes for Fire House Challenge will be given out the final day of competition.

Anyone who accepts the challenge is asked to come to the Carter BloodCare donor room located at 815 S. Baxter in Tyler and give blood in honor of your local lifesavers.  Participants can also nominate a firefighter to be entered into a drawing for a grand prize. The winner will be announced on September 26th at Combat Challenge in the parking lot of the Broadway Square Mall.
