TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Avocado lovers rejoice! Wednesday was your day...National Guacamole Day that is.
Customers at El Charro's in Tyler were taken aback by the news.
"I had no idea it was Guacamole Day," Logan Chitwood said.
"I haven't heard of that one," Don Smith said.
"It just kind of slipped up on us," Janna Kuechle said. "I didn't realize that."
"You know, I've got a lot of things on my calendar," Ross Conner said. "That date didn't quite make the cut this year. Maybe next year."
Okay, maybe the marketing for the day needs work to help get the word out. But any day involving guacamole in Texas is going to be a big day.
"oh, in general I like it really well," Don Smith said.
"I like the taste, Chitwood said. "I like to put salt on it, it makes it a lot better."
"it's an important part of Mexican food," Kyndl Williams said. "you just can't eat Mexican food without guacamole."
Guacamole is being honored for several reasons. Of course, people love the taste, but more importantly, it's good for you.
"It is healthy," Kuechle said, laughing. "I don't like many healthy things, but I like guacamole."
"I've never heard of Guacamole Day," ETMC dietician Natalie Roberts said, "but I'm so excited about it. Avocados are an excellent source of lots of vitamins, minerals, nutrients, that can be part of a healthy diet."
"Avocados, although they are high in fat, are high in a good kind of fat. The monounsaturated fat that is good for your heart."
"Yeah, the guacamole itself is great," Conner said. "when you pile on the greasy chips that I like to eat with it, it's probably not so good though."
Well, what you eat with it obviously matters, but on its special day, it's good to know your favorite side dish might be looking out for you.
