MOUNT VERNON, TX (KLTV) - A grandmother is shot to death, and Franklin County Sheriff Paul Fletcher says it was by own her daughter. It happened Monday morning in Mount Vernon. Fletcher says the victim, Barbara Ramsey, was shot in the head two times inside her home on County Road 3010.
"Just total devastation," said Adrian Bolin, neighbor. "Total devastation."
Neighbors along a secluded, quiet country road cannot believe the tragic turn of events that took place inside one home.
"Just a twisted stomach, especially when it happened right next door," said Bolin.
Investigators are still working the crime scene, where a mother and grandmother in her late 60's was gunned down by her daughter. It happened while the victim's husband was out running errands.
"A man went home and found his wife shot," said Franklin County Sheriff Paul Fletcher, Jr.
But, neighbors say Barbara Ramsey was a very caring, Christian woman who will be missed terribly.
"She always reminded me of an angel because she was really soft-spoken and so sweet," said Bolin.
As for the suspect, Michelle Ramsey, officials caught her Monday afternoon, trying to race out of town.
"They got in a short chase with this individual," said Fletcher. "Vehicle wrecked out south of Franklin County and the suspect was taken into custody."
A motive for the killing is unclear, but investigators say we can expect much more to come out now that they have their suspect.
"She's forthcoming," said Fletcher. "She's talking to investigators right now, so it's still evolving."
