Released by Richard Vance with Smith County:

TYLER, TX - Defendant Ira Lampin, 66, has plead guilty to three charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

Each charge carries with it a sentence from probation to Life in the penitentiary. The victims were members of the defendant's family.

Both the defendant and his wife worked for Lindale ISD as bus drivers. A fellow employee and her husband informed the transportation director for Lindale ISD that one of the victims had made an outcry about the sexual assault. This individual contacted the Precinct 5 authorities in Lindale. An investigation was begun in this case. The victims were 13, 15, and 17 when they made their outcry as to the sexual abuse. One victim said that the abuse started at 8, another at 12, and another at 13. For each victim the sexual assaults occurred on multiple occasions, and one victim said it was on a daily basis. Over the course of approximately ten years, the defendant was consistently fondling or sexually assaulting one of the three victims.

The State argued for the max. The defense argued for probation. After considering all the evidence, the Judge sentenced the defendant to LIFE in each case. The defendant will not be eligible for parole for 30 years.
