Students score high, principal shaves head

WINONA, TX (KLTV) - A recognized rating equals a principal's head shave. At Winona High School Tuesday morning, principal Leland Hand, lost his locks with students cheering him on. It was a promise he made to high school students, if they reached a recognized or exemplary rating from TAKS tests.

"If I didn't love each one of you, there's no way that I would have done this," said Hand to his students. "I want you to know, y'all talk to your teachers, we challenge you to do your best next year [and] we want to be exemplary. [I'm] proud of you guys!"

Winona High School says they were just shy of reaching exemplary, but they hope to reach that goal next year.
