LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - A Longview man has been arrested and charged with murder in the Friday shooting death of a man staying at his home.  Police arrested 48 year old Robert Wayne Howell early this morning.

The incident happened late Friday at a home in the 400 block of Helane Lane. It was just after seven p.m. last night that police were called to a shot fired at the home.

"Apparently from the investigation two men were involved in an argument that ended in the shooting death of one," says Longview police sergeant Richard Spruiell. "He was detained for investigation at the house and subsequent to the investigation then the arrest was made early this morning."

Investigators say Howell offered to let the victim stay at his home, and later it resulted in an argument. The situation soon escalated to the point Howell allegedly shot the man.

"They were friends had met previously at a bar somewhere in town and were living at the same address" says Spruiell.

The victims name has not been released as authorities are waiting to contact his family.

"Part of the investigation is to locate where he's from and thereby contact the next of kin" says Spruiell.

Howell remained in the Gregg county jail on a $25,000 bond Saturday morning.
